  • Two theories of light: Prismatic and pigment
  • Prismatic: light and how it is reflected
  • Pigment: colors reflected by pigments
  • Color wheel divided into cool and warm tones
  • Cool colors have blue base and warm colors have red base
  • White-purity, cleanliness, used as an accent
  • Black: associated with darkness, evil and night. Sophistication
  • Red: fire, passion, anger, irritation
  • Pink: light sweet and takes away the power of red
  • Yellow: Happiness, sunshine and light, heat and dryness
  • Gold: wealth, luxury and charisma
  • Blue: nature, sky, night and ocean, peace and distance
  • Green: mixture of yellow and blue, nature, growth and freshness
  • Orange: mixture of red and yellow, has passion of red and cheeriness of yellow
  • Peach: a tint of orange, cheery
  • Brown: shade of orange, mother earth, earthy, stable
  • Purple: mixture of red and blue, dignified color, can be very depressing
  • Gray: neutral, can be tinted warm and cool
  • Silver: a variation of gray, neutral
  • Simplify by using color themes and color chords
  • Colors on the opposite of each other on the color wheel are complementary
  • Analogous schemes contain three colors: one to dominate another to support and the last to accent it
  • Complementary color schemes: can be used to make something stand out such as a character
  • Split complementary color schemes use analogous scheme as the base with complementary base
  • Triadic color scheme: three distributed colors
  • Rectangle color scheme: double complementary scheme
  • Square color scheme: distributed at four even points on the color wheel
  • Most important thing to do is designing color for the character then choosing color based on the character
  • Visual hierarchy: certain elements of a design to be important than other
  • Eyes: characters head is the most important spot especially the eyes as they express emotions
  • Color accents to make characters pop
  • Hand: reinforce emotion and help guide the eye
  • Not every character should be the star of the show
  • The larger the area of color the less its purity
